GENRETwin Stick Arcade Shooter

BEST OVERALL GAME RECREATIONBuilt entirely in C and OpenGL.
GAME SUMMARY

Robotron 2084 is a fast paced twin stick shooter about surviving dense enemy waves while rescuing the last remaining humans. Movement and firing are independent, so every second is a decision between escape, positioning, and aggression.

THE CHALLENGE

Recreate the chaos without a commercial engine.

I recreated Robotron’s twin stick core in C and OpenGL, building the gameplay, runtime structure, enemy behaviors, rendering effects, collision, and wave flow from scratch. The project earned Best Overall Game Recreation in my cohort showcase.

SYSTEMS I BUILT
  • Object oriented C with vtables, function pointers, and callbacks for modular update and draw behavior.
  • Object pools for bullets, enemies, and obstacles during dense combat.
  • Eight direction movement, sprite animation, vertex color effects, explosions, and level transitions.
  • Distinct enemy behaviors including diagonal Grunts, sinusoidal Spheroids, and randomized Quarks.
  • AABB collision with type specific handlers, probabilistic wave spawning, and persistent high scores.
INSTRUCTIONS TO PLAY

Run the build.

  1. Clone the GitHub project.
  2. Open the Game folder and launch the executable.
  3. Move with W, A, S, D.
  4. Shoot with I, J, K, L. Keep moving.
